If you plan to take a Charleston vacation for Thanksgiving, try signing up for the annual Turkey Day Run & Gobble Wobble. The Turkey Day Run & Gobble Wobble is the largest 5K in South Carolina and considered by many locals and tourists to be a holiday tradition. The race takes place on Thanksgiving morning at 9:00 a.m. at Marion Square in downtown Charleston.
Participating in the Turkey Day Run & Gobble Wobble is a great way to spend time with your family on Thanksgiving and take part in a healthy activity before sitting to enjoy your Thanksgiving meal. The Turkey Day Run & Gobble Wobble consists of a 5K run or walk that goes throughout downtown including alongside The Battery. This U.S. Track & Field certified race is marked by beautiful scenery including the White Point Gardens, Fort Sumter and many historical homes like Calhoun Mansion.
The Children’s Fun Run is designed for kids 10 years and under and is a great way to encourage your kids to be active. The race begins at 10:00 a.m. and is broken down into four divisions: ages 3 and under, ages 4-5, ages 6-7 and ages 8-10. Each participant receives a prize and each division starts five minutes after the previous. Registration for the Children’s Fun Run is $8 per child and includes a bib, free t-shirt and a medal.
The Turkey Day Run & Gobble Wobble is presented by the Knights of Columbus and is approximately 100 years old. Proceeds go to benefit local charities like the Alzheimer’s Association. Registration for this Charleston Thanksgiving event is $35 by November 21st. Race day registration is $40. Included in the registration fee is one bib and a long-sleeve t-shirt. T-shirts are available for an extra $10.
