Charleston has a rich art culture that features dozens of painters, sculptures, dancers, musicians, fashion designers and so much more. The city’s old history and beautiful weather have made it a breeding ground for aspiring artists since the cities inception in the 17th century. Edgar Allen Poe called Charleston his home for a while, and Bill Murray currently lives there and even sponsors the local baseball team, the Charleston River Dogs. If you want to see all the great up-and-coming artists in downtown Charleston, stay at an amazing downtown Charleston hotel for Jailbreak 5.
Jailbreak is a fairly new Charleston tradition. It’s an all-encompassing music and arts festival held at the Old City Jail in downtown. The event is held by Entropy Arts and will be taking place on Saturday, April 27th from 4-11 p.m. There will be multiple events going on inside the jailhouse including live music from local bands Brave Baby, The Royal Tinfoil and Steven Fiore. Up on the 3rd floor of the Jail is the comedy room, which will be featuring plenty of stand-up comedians like Andy Rider, Sam Jackel, Dusty Slay and others. Local artists work will be lining the hallways in the Old City Jail and there will be plenty of artisans with handcrafted goods and on-site demonstrations in the Jailhouse courtyard. Also in the courtyard will be several dance performances. There will be other smaller dance performances going on in the hallways. This year’s Jailbreak will feature Fashion designers showing off their work as well. Jailbreak 5 will also have vendors and food trucks in case you get hungry between performances. This event is 18+ and tickets are fifteen dollars in advanced and twenty dollars at the door.
